GAWL Proudly Celebrates Women’s History Month with Release of Empowering Book on Women Lawyers’ Triumphs and Resilience

The Georgia Association for Women Lawyers (GAWL) is excited to announce the upcoming release of its highly anticipated first book, Path to Empowerment: Women Lawyers Sharing Stories of Connection, Triumph, and Resilience. Scheduled for release in March 2025, this groundbreaking book is the first of its kind—a collaborative effort by women lawyers, for women lawyers, aimed at empowering and inspiring legal professionals, as well as aspiring attorneys. Path to Empowerment offers readers an intimate look at the personal and professional journeys of 17 accomplished women lawyers, who courageously share their challenges, triumphs, and lessons learned on the path to success.

Founded in 1928, GAWL has long been a key advocate for women in the legal profession, promoting equity, diversity, and the advancement of women lawyers across Georgia. As the oldest statewide bar organization in the state for women, GAWL has served as a vital resource for mentorship, professional development, and creating opportunities for women to connect, learn, and succeed.

The mission of GAWL is clear: to foster environments that empower women lawyers to excel while providing them with mentorship and support throughout their careers. In line with this mission, Path to Empowerment highlights the crucial roles of mentorship, resilience, and personal growth in shaping successful legal careers. This book, however, goes beyond just empowering women it also underscores the importance of male allies who support and champion the advancement of women in the legal field and other industries.

The book features contributions from 17 co-authors, including GAWL President Ebony Phillips, Attorney and Intuitive Business Coach Lynita Mitchell-Blackwell, and Attorney Angel Riley, alongside other influential women in the legal community. Their stories provide both instructional and inspirational insights, offering relatable lessons for overcoming personal and professional challenges. These transparent and heartfelt narratives offer a rare and authentic glimpse into the lives of women lawyers, making Path to Empowerment an invaluable resource for women and men alike who are committed to fostering success, equity, and mentorship in any field.

GAWL President Ebony Phillips shared, “The authors have bravely opened up about their personal paths to empowerment, offering unfiltered wisdom, guidance, and inspiration. Their stories are a powerful tool for women everywhere, and we hope that both women and men can gain something from these authentic, transformative journeys.”

Notable figures like former Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears and Linda Klein, the first woman president of the State Bar of Georgia, have endorsed the book for its invaluable contribution to the legal profession. Sears remarked, “This book offers invaluable wisdom for aspiring women lawyers and those at any stage in their careers. It demonstrates that success is not linear and shows how we can grow from challenges. It’s a reminder that success is achievable when we support one another.

Path to Empowerment is more than just a resource for women in law. Aligning with GAWL’s dedication to advancing equity and diversity, net proceeds from the sale of Path to Empowerment will benefit both GAWL and the GAWL Foundation. These funds will support scholarships, mentorship programs, and initiatives designed to empower the next generation of women in law. The official book launch for Path to Empowerment will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Community Achievement Center in Decatur, Georgia. The event will celebrate the release of this groundbreaking book, offering attendees an opportunity to meet the authors, hear their personal stories, and learn more about how the book will empower readers to overcome challenges and succeed.
